My brother is taller tan me.

My cellphone is bigger than your cellphone (Mi teléfono celular es más grande que tu teléfono celular).

This summer the weather is getting hotter than the last summer.

This laptop is heavier than that one.
Not: This laptop is heavyer than that one

This test was easier than the last one (Esta prueba fue más fácil que la última)
Not: This test was easyer than the last one.

Tercer tipo

This game is more boring than the one which is about races.
Not: This game is boringer than the one which is about races

Action movies are more interesting than horror movies.
Not: Action movies are interestinger than horror movies.

That painting is less beautiful than the one I painted.
Not: That painting is less beautifuler than the one I painted.

Por lo tanto, la forma correcta es “She is taller than me”, no “she is more taller than me”.

My computer is better than my classmate’s computer.
Not: My computer is better than my classmate’s computer.

To get sick is worse than to get a bad day.
Not: To get sick is bader than to get a bad day

Por ejemplo: Getting my car repaired is going to cost an arm and a leg.

Por ejemplo: A good joke can help break the ice at a party.

Culturales

Spill the beans – Revelar un secreto. Por ejemplo: I can’t keep it a secret any longer; I need to spill the beans about the surprise party.

He’s not sick anymore; he kicked the bucket last night.

Por ejemplo: The test was a piece of cake; I knew all the answers.

Hit the hay – Talvez ya conozcas el significado de la siguiente oración: “I’ll go to bed” si es así te será sencillo aprender que “hit the hay” tiene el mismo significado que la anterior es decir esta expresión es útilizada para decir irse a dormir. Por ejemplo: “It’s getting late; I think I’ll hit the hay.”

Contextuales

The ball is in your court – Seguramente has escuchado esta expresión alguna vez en películas o series. Por ejemplo: “I’ve done my part; now the ball is in your court to make a decision.”

But these words were not part of the language originally, they started to appear into the language with the Norman invasion in England in 1066-1075 when the French-speaking Normans conquered England. Its ruling class added a massive among of French and Latin to the English language previously spoken there. We call it today the old English (English of Beowulf).

The old English belongs to the Germanic language family, brought to the British Isles in the 5th and 6th centuries by the Angles, the Saxons and the Jutes.
